Recipients of the Barrie Bain Volunteer of the Year Award Announced
On Thursday, November 18th, Hatcher Garden volunteers (our Hearts of Hatcher) were honored with an appreciation luncheon. During that lunch, the Barrie Bain Volunteers of the Year were announced for the years 2020 and 2021. Normally this announcement is made during the annual Twilight in the Garden event, but since that event had been cancelled last year and this year, we still wanted to recognize individuals who graciously contributed to the garden with their talent and time. Paul Audet was named Volunteer of the Year for 2020 and Linda Olson was named for the year 2021. Each received an engraved brick with their name on it to be placed in one of the garden’s brick locations. In this season of Thanksgiving, we greatly appreciate our honorees and all the Hearts of Hatcher who keep our Garden green and growing.

Volunteers at Hatcher Garden seem to come when they need to and when they are needed. Paul came to us as we approached the construction of a stone bridge which is an undertaking. Paul, over the course of eighteen months came up with ways to construct this bridge you see at Hatcher Garden with the people and the equipment that we had at our disposal. Innovative thinking outside the box and an endless amount of patience led to a step by step process that could be followed and give us a wonderful stone bridge which fits the vision at Hatcher Garden. Paul is one of our many valuable family members.

Linda Olson is not afraid of hard work. She shows impressive dedication weekly to Hatcher Garden. For example, very often, Linda is tending the garden before our staff arrives! She is willing to help with any project and sees it to completion. Like so many, Linda is drawn to the beauty of Hatcher Garden and shows care by volunteering 3 to 4 days of each week. She has become a great friend to the Garden, her co-volunteers, and especially to me!
