New Coloring Page Starting the Alphabet Series
The new release of coloring pages will start the alphabet series, featuring mainly plants and trees that grow at Hatcher Garden. The first coloring page features the letter “P”, for Passionflower, a native wild vine that was growing this past Summer in the garden. When a similar species of this stunning flower was discovered by missionaries, they used it as a teaching tool to explain the events of Jesus Christ’s final hours. The three part style (female part) represented the three nails while underneath the five stamens (male part) looked like hammers. The column these sit upon is the pillar that Christ was scourged and the tendrils are the whips the soldiers used. The thread like rays underneath represented the crown of thorns; the petals and sepals (ten total) represented the loyal apostles, minus Peter who denied and Judas who betrayed. There are over 500 different species all over the world. You can download this coloring page here. Look for more of the alphabet series in the future.
