Plantings on the Alphabet Trail

When the Hatcher Garden Alphabet Trail was first established on a bitterly cold January day back in 2018 as a project by Boy Scout Troop 2, the eventual plan was that flora specimens would be planted near or around the post whose name began with the same letter on the post. Starting with the letter H across from the Conifer Display Garden, the Alphabet Trail circled around the garden spelling out Hatcher Garden; beginning on the original paved path, bearing right at the Garden of Hope & Healing to the Mary Black Foundation Woodland Trail, turning right onto the Thomas Bartram W. Trail and then finishing onto the original paved path. where it ends with the letter N, at the bridge. Recently the letters had been repainted. New plantings have been placed at some of the posts. Most notably heuchera (Coral Bells) have been planted at the first H located across from the Conifer Display Garden. Hellebores have been at the second H in HatcHer and several Nandina were planted at the base of the Letter N. Look for more plantings in the near future.
