The Stone Patio is Being Renovated

The Stone Patio at Corrie’s Garden Room (which includes the bridge and waterfall) is being upgraded with paver stones. In recent years, the original floor stones and connecting cement have fallen into disrepair due to wear. Hatcher Garden’s Board of Directors and staff made renovation plans in an effort to preserve the history of the patio, while updating it to a level that would return it to its proper place within the garden. A semi-circle wall that curves around the part of the circumference of the patio provides seating for reflection as you listen to the falling water. The renovated site will once again be available for weddings, memorial services and other gatherings.

Part of the renovation of Corrie’s Garden Room also includes the former asphalt paved paths leading up to Corrie’s Bridge, under which the waterfall flows under. The original asphalt on both sides of the bridge has been removed to be replaced with paver stones, further enhancing the beauty of the area. The floor boards of Corrie’s Bridge have been replaced as well. Corrie’s Garden Room was dedicated to former Hatcher Garden Board Member Corrie Miller Whitlock. It includes the newly renovated Stone Patio, Corrie’s Bridge and the waterfall.

With the circle completed with pavers, the section connecting the patio to the paved path of the Thomas W. Bartram Trail is laid with slate stones. Before it was just the ground between the Stone Patio and the paved path.
