The Spectacular Beauty of Iris
Hatcher Garden and Woodland Preserve has always had a collection of irises that bloom at this time of the year, the Siberian iris in the Water Wise Demonstration Garden, the versicolors scattered throughout the garden, the yellow ones in the duck pond, to name a few. But this year, the garden is celebrating the gift of Reverend Everette Lineberger of some irises from his garden. Upon retirement this Lutheran minister devoted himself to raising irises which can be seen at Quail Hill Farm in Inman. Besides some spectacular bearded iris, there is a Japanese iris and some Virginia irises. Most of the new irises are in the bog garden of the developing Children’s Garden, a few others are scattered around the garden. Come and see them in all their beauty while they last!
