On the 25th anniversary of that gift in 2012, the Hatcher Garden Board of Trustees took steps to ensure the future of the garden. The Board announced the establishment of the Preservation Fund to preserve the garden’s legacy and asked the community for their support. The goal was to raise $300,000, the equivalency of one year’s operational budget. These funds will be kept separate from the general operating budget and all expenditures will be approved by the Board of Trustees.
As a beginning, The Spartanburg County Foundation secured a very generous, anonymous gift of $25,000 to establish the Hatcher Garden Preservation Fund. It is the Board’s hope that the community will join in making the commitment to help ensure the financial security of Hatcher Garden and enable it to continue to thrive and better serve the needs of the community.
